Corpus Christi mayor says lanes on Shoreline Blvd. should be reopened

The lanes on Shoreline Blvd. that have been closed for nearly two-years could be reopened despite a low traffic count.

Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb is calling for the reopening of the parts of Shoreline Blvd. that have been closed to traffic for nearly two-years. According to the Caller Times, the mayor believes the lanes never should have been closed in the first place.

However, results of a recent traffic study show that part of Shoreline Blvd. does not generate high traffic numbers.

Although the mayor wants the lanes to reopen, downtown stakeholders say they value the space as is and believe it could be utilized to host events that cannot be held elsewhere.

The road is currently used as part of the downtown farmers market every Wednesday.
