CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - After being named the "birdiest" city in America for the last 10 years, Corpus Christi is hosting its first ever "Birdiest Festival in America" event April 20-23 at the South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center.
Since Corpus Christi is in key spring migration flyways, it's a great opportunity to see hundreds of bird species. Organizers along with partners -- Swarovski Optik, Corpus Christi Convention & Visitors Bureau, Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program and City of Corpus Christi -- said they are seeing people register from across the country.
Registration for the four-day event costs $35 per person. The cost includes six guest speakers talking about birding, vendor tents, arts and crafts, Raptor Project shows, daily admission to the Botanical Gardens, and a Mexican fajita dinner during the opening reception. Registration is required for access to optional, separately priced features like 13 different field trips, two "big sits," and barbecue dinner Saturday, April 22.
Food trucks will be on site for other meals.
Field trips ranging from $20 to $120 per person include King Ranch, Fennessey Ranch, Lake Choke Canyon State Park, Port Aransas, and a skimmer boat tour. A single-day $20 option covering admission, birding talks and a nature walk also is available for birders able to attend only part of the festival.
