CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - City Council members approved an agreement Tuesday that will allow the construction of a new Regional Youth Sports Complex at the corner of Crosstown and FM-43.
The $20-30 million complex includes 14 outdoor sports fields and indoor facilities including a restaurant and convention rooms. The new agreement requires SQH Sports Entertainment Inc. to buy an additional 50 acres of land for commercial development, which includes the water and wastewater extensions the company has agreed to pay for.
The project will not cost taxpayer money, and in fact, the company expects the complex will attract more than 400,000 visitors per year and will generate almost $19 million for the complex alone.
Construction should begin on the project once the additional land is acquired, and will take a couple years to complete.
