Crash causes extensive damage at local apartment complex

The driver of a truck lost control and crashed into an apartment complex early Saturday morning. Police are now investigating how it happened.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Residents at one south-side apartment complex got a rude awakening overnight after a driver lost control and crashed through a fence, causing extensive damage.

The accident happened just after 4 a.m. Saturday morning on Saratoga Blvd. near Weber Rd.
According to police, a man in his 30's was taking off from the Mcdonald's drive thru, when for some reason punched the gas, jumped the grassy barrier on Saratoga, slammed into a fence at the Dolphins Landing Apartments, before he finally hit a couple of pillars.  Police say the driver came to a stop just before crashing into an apartment.

"I had no idea what was going on.  I thought the building was falling apart!  I heard the thump, but not the vehicle, " said resident Norma Lozano.

Another resident, Robin Gehl told 3 News, "2 minutes before it happened, I was standing by the gate with my dog letting him go to the bathroom.  I ran inside, and as soon as I shut my door, this is what happened."

Police are investigating to see if alcohol played a role.
Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.
