Crime Control and Prevention District funding lost

An organization that helps police and is funded by a 1/8 cent sales tax may have to cut some of the programs it sponsors.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - An organization that helps police and is funded by a 1/8 cent sales tax may have to cut some of the programs it sponsors.

Those in charge of the Crime Control and Prevention District say they may run out of funds for support programs as soon as next year because of declining sales tax revenues.

Possible programs on the cutting block include graffiti eradication, the juvenile assessment center, and the pawn shop detail.

Those programs are now manned by civilians so that officers are freed up to patrol the streets. The plan now is to present a new funding proposal to the City for next year's budget.
