CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII-NEWS) - A record number of riders were signing up and picking up their packets Friday morning for the 13th annual H-E-B Conquer the Coast event.

Organizers say the bicycling event has continued to grow every year. At last check Thursday afternoon, more than 1,745 cyclists had already registered for Saturday morning's event.

This year's event has been dedicated to Andy Heines, who was a longtime Conquer the Coast Steering Committee member. Heines passed away Monday morning on July 25th.

Members say Heines never regained consciousness after being hit by a vehicle while he was bicycling that morning. A social media hastag was created for this event: #ThisOnesForAndy

There are three courses: a Cheniere 65-mile course, a 21-mile course, and a 10-mile course.

Organizers tell 3 News that the Cheniere 65-mile course is a challenge for even the most seasoned cyclists.
