D.A. discusses plans for investigating officer-involved shootings

In October, 55-year-old Lister was shot and killed by Corpus Christi Police Department Officer Jose Hassette.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The family of Dewboy Lister is pleading with Nueces County District Attorney Mark Gonzalez to bring more attention to Lister's death.

In October, 55-year-old Lister was shot and killed by Corpus Christi Police Department Officer Jose Hassette.

Lister's family does not want the CCPD to do the investigation and is asking that the Texas Rangers take it on. After a CCPD investigation, a Nueces County Grand Jury declared Hassette was not criminally responsible for Lister's death.

Gonzalez said that he did listen to the family's concerns and may come up with a different way to handle cases such as Hassette's in the future.

"What we would like hopefully to do in the future is look into ways where we can create a task force that will go in an investigation on officer-involved shootings, whether it's a non-death case or cases where someone's life was lost," Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez wants to get all law enforcement in the county together to talk about how the task force could be formed, and who all would be a part of it.
