'Dallas Morning News' says it can't support Trump

USA TODAY - The Dallas Morning News has endorsed a Republican for president since 1964. But in this election, the Texas newspaper will not be backing Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, the newspaper’s editorial board said it could not support the Republican nominee for president: “Trump is — or has been — at odds with nearly every GOP ideal this newspaper holds dear.”

In a blistering editorial The Dallas Morning News goes through what the board sees as the pillars of conservatism — individual liberty, free markets, economic conservatism, strong national defense — and then reasons why Trump does not fit into any of them.

There is no mention of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the article. The Dallas Morning News did endorse her against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary, but it is not clear what the newspaper will do in the general election.
