Del Mar College announces forecast-busting enrollment numbers

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Del Mar College hosts a news conference Tuesday morning to announce their exploding enrollment numbers, which this year has surpassed the Texas High Education Coordinating Board's projection by nearly 16-percent and exceeds state projections through 2025.

According to administrators, annual enrollment in continuing education courses has more than doubled since the 2011-12 academic year and includes workforce training courses and certifications that help students find employment in local industries.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Del Mar College student Julio Wilmot, along with communication major Marjorie Bryant-Sparrow, shared their experiences at Del Mar College during the news conference.

The college said they attribute their increased enrollment to several initiatives undertaken this year, including expanding class sizes to accommodate students; helping students on academic probation stay in college; offering emergency loans for tuition; and texting students to remind them of tuition payment deadlines.
