Disaster recovery continues in the Coastal Bend

"What's been amazing is just the strength of the community here, I've met numerous different homeowners here and volunteers from the community and elsewhere who have all just had such a resilient spirit," volunteer Vita Pierzchala said.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Volunteers from all over the world gathered Friday in Aransas Pass as the AmeriCorps enlisted the help of smaller volunteer groups to help clean up the devastation that was left behind by Hurricane Harvey.

During Harvey, a tree fell onto the roof of a home causing severe damage and volunteers had to do gutting, mucking, and damage control work.

"What's been amazing is just the strength of the community here, I've met numerous different homeowners here and volunteers from the community and elsewhere who have all just had such a resilient spirit," volunteer Vita Pierzchala said.

AmeriCorps has committed at least two years of disaster recovery in the Coastal Bend.
