Donation station opened at Howard's Barbecue

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi police created an ordinance at the beginning of the year targeting panhandling parts of the city. They said there is a better way to help the homeless.

One way is going to a donation station. The first one was set up Thursday at Howard's Barbecue in downtown Corpus Christi -- a repurposed parking meter that you can donate your change to rather than giving it to panhandlers.

The money collected will go to homeless programs throughout the Coastal Bend.

Howard's Barbecue is the first business to set up the donation station, but the Corpus Christi Police Department anticipates many more popping up around the city in the future.
