Downtown Management District picks new leader

After three months of being without an Executive Director, the Downtown Management District named a new leader Thursday.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - After three months of being without an Executive Director, the Downtown Management District named a new leader Thursday. Alyssa Barrera will take on the role of Executive Director Feb. 5, and she currently serves as the business liaison for the City of Corpus Christi

"It really should be kind of the shining jewel of our region, so we're going to work on keeping downtown on the forefront," Barrera said.

Barrera plans to continue growing the revitalization of the downtown area.

"Downtown Corpus Christi is very important to economic development competitiveness and ability to retain talent and keep people interested in investing in Corpus Christi," Barrera said. 

A Corpus Christi native, Barrera understands the importance of communicating with the public for the best possible outcome of the downtown area.

"Keeping people excited about downtown the product so that visitors and residents have something to really be proud of," Barrera said. 

Barrera explained plans that were in place before the departure of former Executive Director Terry Sweeney. 

"Downtown management district board adopted three-year strategic plan right before Sweeney departure," Barrera said. "90-day implementation segments really excited to get started."

The art community has continued to be more involved in the downtown scene Barrera wants to maintain that presence.

"We have really great art scene downtown Corpus Christi we have art center museum, new art studio, we'll just continue to utilize that showcase you know a lot of the talent we have in Corpus Christi," Barrera said.
