Dr. Is In: How to Curb Holiday Weight Gain

Dr. Vijay stopped by 3 News First Edition to talk about holiday weight gain and ways to avoid adding on the pounds.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The holiday season is a time for significant meetings with family and friends.  As is often the case these meetings involve food and drinks.  In fact, few would argue that this is a time that most people are at their least healthful, both in terms of their diet choices and the decreased amount of exercise.  A fairly significant study has concluded that that average American gains approximately one pound.  This may not seem like much but a pound a year adds up quickly.  The above study noted that this average gain is actually maintained for the most part.  A good method to avoid this weight gain is to not change eating habits very significantly during this period.  Moderation is important as always, as these foods are available during the rest of the year.  Gone are the days when foods are limited to certain times of the year because of seasons.  It is also important to continue the regular exercise regimen.  This of course will also diminish some of the other issues related to holidays such as depression.
