CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A young boy lost his life after the vehicle his mother was driving was involved in an accident and flipped on Highway 358 near Flour Bluff Drive.
The highway had to be shut down as crews cleared the scene and investigated the accident.
According to police, a 31-year-old woman driving a Honda Oddyssey struck the back of a flatbed truck that was reportedly driving on the shoulder at a slow rate. The SUV flipped, landing on its roof.
A two-year-old boy riding in the SUV suffered serious head injuries and was given CPR at the scene. He was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital, but sadly he did not survive. Police said he was restrained in the car seat when the vehicle flipped.
The child's mother sustained minor injuries.
Investigators continue to look into the cause of the accident. They said there might be a number of factors that contributed to the crash.
This is the 26th fatal accident this year in Corpus Christi.
