Governor Abbott visits Aransas Pass for update on Harvey recovery

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Governor Greg Abbott paid a visit to Blunt Middle School in Aransas Pass to check on the progress of the renovation work going on there.

The governor toured the school as the district works to recover from Hurricane Harvey. He then visited with area officials inside the school's library.

3News asked the governor about the growing discontent from residents over the job FEMA is doing -- specifically Tuesday's findings that after four months, only a single family in Port Aransas is living in a FEMA trailer.

The governor said he confronted the Director of Homeland Security and the FEMA director about the lack of action.

"I told them what you just said," Abbott said. "The process is moving too slow. It has to operate faster and I mentioned this specific region, and about the fact that people in this region are still living in tents and that's completely unacceptable."

The governor said after speaking with members of Congress, that over the next 48 hours they could pass $81 billion of relief for Hurricane Harvey.

Abbott will be in Port Aransas Thursday handing out hurricane recovery dollars to officials there.
