GPISD participates in Shop with a Cop program

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Students from the Gregory-Portland Independent School District got the chance to walk side-by-side with an officer Wednesday for the annual Shop with a Cop program at Wal-Mart in Portland.

The students were able to shop for Christmas presents for themselves and their family.

Officers shared the importance of investing in the young students.

"I'm a firm believer that influencing the next generation is going to bring around good change for the future, and so it's an opportunity to invest rather than just trying to patrol and prevent crime happening that way," trooper Aaron Shelton said.
