How South Texas could be affected if the government shutdown continues

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) -      As senate works to stop the government shutdown, one South Texas congressman wants you to know how the shutdown could affect your life.

Vicente Gonzalez released information outlining the programs and services that would be affected if a deal is not reached.

Social Security, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act will remain operational, that means all social security checks will still be sent to beneficiaries.

Gonzales says medical services for veterans will continue during a government shutdown but access for workshops designed to help veterans transition to civilian life and employment will be delayed.

However, military personnel will not receive paychecks during a funding lapse.

No new approvals will be made for small business administration loans and small businesses that contract with the federal government would be significantly impacted.
