CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A huge plume of smoke could be seen over Padre Island Monday after a grass fire broke out just before 3 p.m. near El Soccorro Loop, west of the Sea Pines subdivision.

Tall flames scorched about 30 acres in the area. Firefighters from Corpus Christi and Flour Bluff responded and one of the main issues they faced was the wind fueling the flames.

A nearby neighbor who kept a close watch on the fire from his back balcony said he is thankful for the firefighters' quick action. No homes were damaged and no one was hurt.

It took firefighters about an hour to put out all of the hotspots. The cause of the fire is unknown.
