KINGSVILLE (KIII NEWS) - It was a tragic accident that happened a little over a year ago and claimed the lives of two Texas A&M Kingsville students. Now a major lawsuit is about to be filed in the case.
It was back on February 25th of last year that 23-year-old Ebenezer Oloba and 19-year-old Felipe Fuentes were killed in a traffic accident on a highway just north of Refugio. The two were on their way to a student government conference in College Station when their vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly veered off the roadway, eventually landing in the San Antonio River. Both men drowned.
3 News has learned that attorneys for the students' families will file a lawsuit Monday against General Motors, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and several other parties.
The lawsuit will allege that there were several serious issues with the vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. The alleged issues include a software malfunction that caused the vehicle to unexpectedly accelerate, the failure of the driver's side front tire rod, and the failure of the rear passenger side wheel.
