MATHIS (KIII NEWS) - Christmas lights have started to be on display across the Coastal Bend, but a Mathis family's display includes over 60,000 lights.
Patrick Zapata started his Christmas light display four years ago, and individuals can find the show along Redwood Drive.
"We start setting up around October 1st," Zapata said.
When the sun sets, Zapata's home lights up with a little Christmas music.
"Currently using over a mile of extension cord," Zapata said.
Zapata's light display is always a favorite stop for families during this time of year. The lights are set to various Christmas tunes, and each song takes about a month to sync with the music.
"My wife thinks I'm nuts but she's very supportive, my house is full of Christmas lights," Zapata said.
The display first began as a way to honor Zapata's loved ones who passed away, but now it is something that is also bringing joy to hundreds who watch the show.
"Just the joy in the air, nothing beats the laughter of children," Zapata said. "Maybe one of these days the whole neighborhood will be like this.
Individuals can see the display daily from 6 p.m to 10 p.m. on Redwood Drive in Mathis.
