Local teachers headed to Austin to lobby for public education

Hundreds of local teachers are headed to Austin to lobby for public education today.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Today, thousands of educators will be using their first day of spring vacation lobbying for public education. 
Teacher Lobby Day in the Legislature will be taking place at the state's capital where a local group plans to lobby today.
The Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers has organized for the group to highlight several important issues including funding, curriculum, and retirement. 
Dr. Nancy Vera, President of the CCAFT says it's about "reclaiming the promise of public education". 
This event takes place every two years when the legislature meets.
