Lulu Ramirez Inspiring Community Years Later Living with Congenital Heart Disease

Lulu Ramirez

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - She's the little girl whose big heart stole everyone's heart in South Texas. Then 6-year-old Lulu Ramirez, whose wish to meet Elsa from the movie Frozen came true before her 7th surgery for an enlarged heart, where her chances to live were slim.

But two and a half years later, this 9-year-old is a walking miracle.

"I've been getting sick kind of, but I've been good today. I'm good," said Lulu Ramirez.

She remembers that day she met Elsa in Disneyworld like it was yesterday.

"I met her and I was shocked, I was like...I was frozen. I was frozen!," said Ramirez.

But she also remembers her last surgery, a double open-heart surgery in June of 2015, now understanding how risky that day was.

"It was kind of scary. I was scared that I might not have my family anymore, that I might go up to heaven, but thank God I'm here."

She relies on her faith to get through each day. She takes medications 5 times daily and she can't run or play like the other kids, but Lulu has found new ways to smile. She's loves to draw, and to sing, and has grown to love and accept her scar.

"Some kids ask. They say 'What's right here?' I tell them, 'Well that's my scar I was born with it, it's kind of like a birth mark. It's beautiful why should you try to hide it," said Ramirez.

In the end, this disease will likely take her life. Doctors don't know how long she can live like this.

But Lulu says she will be ready to go to heaven when God brings her home, and for now has everything she needs.

"I'm happy that I'm here, and I'm happy that I go to school that I have a family of my own...that just makes me happy," said Ramirez.

Her extra large heart, full of nothing but love.
