DA no longer seeking death penalty against murder suspect

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The Nueces County District Attorney's Office will no longer be seeking the death penalty against a suspect accused of killing a man during a robbery in July of last year.

Three people were accused in the murder -- 30-year old Adan Pena, 29-year old Daniel Venegas and 40-year old Melissa Venegas. All three were charged with capital murder for allegedly killing 24-year-old Robert Flores during the robbery, which took place at a home on 11th Street and Morgan.

According to police, Flores was shot in the chest.

Pena was back in court Monday morning and it was announced that the DA will no longer be seeking the death penalty against him.

Bond for all three suspects was set at $1 million each.
