Mardi Gras on the beach

Many participate with the Mardi Gras on the beach.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi residents and visitors kicked off their shoes for the Barefoot Mardi Gras celebration on Padre Island.

Every year, crowds gather to watch the decadent floats make their way from Whitecap Boulevard to Access Road Five. This parade is always held the Saturday before Fat Tuesday.

The Barefoot Festival includes food, music, art and various vendors, leading up to the King and Queen's Ball on Saturday night.

The Ball is held at Veranda on the Island; a New Orleans extravaganza complete with jazz music, and a traditional shrimp boil. This event is from 7 P.M. to midnight on Saturday, February 10th.

Proceeds from the event benefits Big Brothers, Big Sisters and The Island Foundation.
