MATHIS (KIII NEWS) - A few eye-catching murals in downtown Mathis have some individuals doing a double take.  One of the murals shows looks like a display window advertising Mom's Pie Company.

The paintings are apart of the city's downtown revitalization program that started several months ago to spruce up abandoned buildings and to get folks thinking about setting up business in the downtown area.

A local artist painted them on a building that was next door, that building ended up getting demolished because of severe damage following Hurricane Harvey.

The city was able to save the murals, and now that the building has been demolished, they are now proudly displayed on the side of a neighboring building.

Douglas Dowler with Mathis Economic Development told 3 News, "we had a lot of folks come in wanting to know when the businesses were going to open up and come get pie.  We told them to hold on; it's coming one of these days."

The plan seems to be working.  We're told a new pizza restaurant is going to set up shop in the building where the murals are now located.
