Nueces County Sheriff's Office K9 to get body armor

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A K9 officer with the Nueces County Sheriff's office will be getting some new equipment thanks to a national non-profit.

K9 officer "Nuve" will be receiving a bullet and stab protective vest from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Nuve's vest was sponsored by an anonymous sponsor. Officials say each vest cost between $1,744 – $2,283 dollars and comes with a five-year warranty.

The non-profit, out of Massachusetts, provides protective vests and other assistance to dogs in law enforcement across the United States. Since the organizations creation in 2009 they have provided over 2,600 vests through private and corporate donations, costing over $2.1 million dollars.
