Woman arrested for murder on Caribou Drive, victim identified

Detectives are looking into what they call a suspicious death after a body was found on the Southside.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi police have made one arrest in relation to the shooting death of a 45-year-old male Saturday evening in the 7900 block of Caribou Drive.

According to police, officers had received a call from a third party saying they had received a call about a fight at the residence. Officers responded to the call and made contact with the female suspect, identified Monday as 53-year-old Carla Welch. Speaking to her, they confirmed a man had been shot inside the residence.

Officers located the deceased 45-year-old male victim in a bedroom and took Welch in for questioning. They then arrested her and booked her in the City Detention Center.

The male victim was identified Monday afternoon by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as 45-year-old Larry Ray Simpson. They said he likely died from gunshot wounds, but his official cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology reports.
