Overnight accident causes westside power outage

More than one 1,000 people on the west side of town were without power Tuesday morning after an overnight accident.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - More than one 1,000 people on the west side of town were without power Tuesday morning after an overnight accident.

Investigators say a driver in a white suv slammed into an electric pole on Greenwood between Gollihar and Horne just before 12:30 a.m.

The suv was fully engulfed with flames when officers arrived and power was knocked out from Trojan to the Molina area.

"So I ran outside and I got the fire extinguisher and one of the gentlemen from Apollo Towing stopped here too and joined me in trying to put it out." said Joshua Soehnge.

According to Soehnge two people inside that suv ran off before officers could arrive, leaving the burning car surrounded by live power lines.
