Parts of old Tule Lake Lift Bridge removed

Crews used explosives to remove the South Pier structure from the inner harbor of the Corpus Christi ship channel.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - City Crews continued Friday morning to dismantle the old Tule Lake Lift Bridge.

Crews used explosives to remove the South Pier structure from the inner harbor of the Corpus Christi ship channel.

10 years ago the bridge's structural towers and center span were demolished. The remaining structures from the bridge proved to be a navigating challenge for bigger ships, so it was decided to remove the rest of the bridge.

Once the area is cleared out, port officials said it would be dredged to increase the width of the channel from 200 feet to 300 feet.
