A police report gives new insight into the shooting death of 45-year-old Larry Ray Simpson and the arrest of his girlfriend, 53-year-old Carla Welch, for his murder on Caribou Drive.

Police found Simpson's body in a bedroom in Welch's home on Saturday after receiving a call from a third party saying there had been a disturbance at the home. Welch was arrested for murder and is now being held on a $1 million bond.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office said Simpson's body was in the bedroom of the home on Caribou Drive for several days.

The police report said Welch told investigators that Simpson had pointed a gun to her head and she shot him several times, killing him. She said it happened on Thanksgiving Day and that she called friends for help.

Two days later, police received a statement from a witness saying that Welch had called and said she shot and killed Simpson. Welch was arrested that Saturday and was taken to the City Detention Center.

Welch made her first court appearance since her arrest on Wednesday.
