The Port of Corpus Christi voted Tuesday to pursue the purchase of the abandoned plastics plant owned by M&G.
The decision comes in an effort to develop a saltwater desalination plant. According to the caller times, the port is working to secure an "uninterruptible" source of water for residents.
The plant could produce upwards of 22-million gallons of water a day for industrial use.
Officials say the city was granted a two-point 75-million dollar loan from the Texas Water Development Board to determine if a desalination plant would be feasible in the Coastal Bend.
