Ribbon cutting ceremony held for new Fire Station 18

Members of the community were in attendance for the revealing of the new station.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi's City Council hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for the completion of Fire Station #18.

Members of the community were in attendance for the revealing of the new station.

Fire Station #18 is located on Ayers and Saratoga and includes several rooms, a gym and dining room. Firefighters said the new station would help fill a critical need in the city.

"We anticipate overall probably around 3,000 calls per service this fire station will fulfill, which is a pretty heavy number," Fire Chief Robert Rocha said.

Construction for the $2.1 million fire station started in December of 2016.
