Someone to Know: Salvation Army volunteer Delma Ortiz

The Salvation Army has a simple mission: to meet the community's needs whenever and however they can without discrimination.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The Salvation Army has a simple mission: to meet the community's needs whenever and however they can without discrimination.

The organization offers that help through volunteers like Delma Ortiz, who has volunteered for them for the last 29 years.

"We had already been coming to Salvation Army for a long time, and we just started coming more and more," Ortiz said.

Ortiz has a passion for Salvation Army's mission to lend a helping hand.

"I love it, and I love the things they do and the things they let me do," Ortiz said.

Individuals can find Ortiz volunteering at the Salvation Army's food pantry and inside their thrift store.

"I just love helping people," Ortiz said. "You're not only there helping them, but you're a friend."

The Salvation Army serves in many capacities, from providing food and shelter to meeting spiritual needs of individuals.

"A lot of people don't know that we are a church. You need prayer? There's prayer, and not only for one person but from all the congregation, and it's like we have another family there," Ortiz said.

During the holidays, the Salvation Army could use an extra hand, and Ortiz encourages others to volunteer.

"It's what really counts," Ortiz said. "Give your time and help out the people that really need help."
