CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Since Monday a South Park Middle School dad has been standing outside of the school, both before and after classes, because he said the school is not doing enough about bullying.
"Any children that need help, I'm going to try and be a voice," John Medina said. "I'm going to try and be a voice."
Bullying is an ongoing epidemic in the district and Medina said his daughter is a victim that reported her bullies several times to administration. She was forced to defend herself.
"Because my daughter grabbed her and held her," Medina said, "the parents made a claim that my daughter had put her in a chokehold."
According to Medina, the school suspended his daughter for two days and the parents of the other girl involved pressed charges against her.
"They mug shotted her, they fingerprinted her, and she had to go to the juvenile court," Medina said.
Instead of protecting Medina's daughter, he said they punished her.
Some parents 3News spoke with said they support Medina and are defending his daughter.
"I'm here to support him and anything he needs," Eric Tunchez said. "I do believe there is a lot of bullying in these schools."
Medina will continue to protest.
"I'm not backing off on this," Medina said. "I'm going to take this even if I have to take this to the highest court. They did wrong to my daughter."
The CCISD released the following statement to 3News:
"CCISD is aware of Mr. Medina's concerns. Out of respect for student privacy, we cannot comment on the specifics of this matter. CCISD remains dedicated to providing high-quality education in a safe and friendly environment for all students."
The school district does have a bullying incident report that parents and students can file online. To do so, click here.
