CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Debra Cuellar has been participating in Special Olympics golf and has just made it to one of the biggest competitions of the year.

Practicing golf each week has been a routine for Cuellar for over a decade. She's a dedicated Special Olympics athlete and just got second place in the area golf competition in Victoria.

That means she will go to the state Fall Classic in College Station this week -- a huge accomplishment. Even better, she gets to play with her dad in the tournament.

Cuellar's mother said she has seen a dramatic increase in her daughter's abilities due to being able to play sports.

"She's more confident. She knows that we're always involved with her with whatever she does," Alicia Cuellar said.

Debra said this just gives her even more drive to keep practicing and playing. She is thankful to the organization that has made her life even better.

"I don't think I'll ever be done with Special Olympics," Cuellar said. "Special Olympics has always been a part of my life."
