CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A warning meant to go out to Lone Star College's University Park Campus, which is just outside of Houston, inadvertently went out via text message to several schools across the country, including Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

Late Wednesday night, a message was sent out telling recipients to evacuate buildings and await instructions. Another message was sent soon after clarifying that the emergency was at "University Park."

Those texts went to students across the country. TAMUK posted on their Facebook soon after letting students know it was not meant for them.

The warning was for an apparent gas scare near the Lone Star College campus, according to our sister station KHOU. College administrators are blaming a new alert system for the incident.

Among the college campuses that reportedly received the alert so far were LSU, Penn State, UT Arlington, University of North Texas and Baylor.
