KINGSVILLE (KIII NEWS) - A Seismic recording station at Texas A&M University- Kingsville has detected waves from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in New Zealand.
The powerful tremor rocked New Zealand early yesterday morning, triggering landslides and a tsunami. The U.S. Geological survey says the tsunami wave was the largest the country has seen in nearly 40-years. At least 2 people were killed.
Strong aftershocks continued to shake the country early this morning. Officials at Kingsville A&M say they detected the tremor because waves travel through the interior of the Earth at different speeds.
