Turtle rescues to continue despite government shutdown

Folks with the Padre Island National Seashore say they will continue to operate a skeleton crew in order to recover and rescue cold stunned turtles.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - A skeleton crew from the Padre Island National Seashore will continue to search and rescue cold stunned turtles despite the government shutdown.  There is also new information in regards to the number of cold stunned turtles found here in the costal bend.
    According to officials with the Padre Island National Seashore, as of Friday 325 cold stunned turtles were located in Texas.  A majority of the turtles were found along our local coast.
Officials ask that you continue to report any turtles you might see.  You can report your sightings by calling the turtle lab at 361-949-8173 ext. 226 or if it is after hours, 361-876-8462 for the Upper Laguna Made and North Padre Island (including Padre Island National Seashore). Elsewhere in Texas, call 1-866-TURTLE-5 to get the appropriate contact number for your region.
