TxDOT credited for safe roads during cold blast

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - As dropping temperatures were a concern for area drivers over the past few days, fortunately, there were no major road closures.

For that, many are crediting the hard work of the Texas Department of Transportation.

TxDOT crews spent hours leading up to the cold blast keeping roads safe by spreading them with salt. Officials said they are prepared if another freeze is to happen in the future.

"Our crews overreacted instead of underperform," TxDOT's Rickey Dailey said. "Again, they did an outstanding job."

TxDOT will be monitoring road conditions overnight, but no icy conditions are expected. You can keep track of major road closures at www.drivetexas.org.
