Woman accused in fatal shooting on Caribou Drive goes to court

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The woman arrested in connection with the city's latest homicide is set to appear in court at the Nueces County Courthouse.

53-year old Carla Welch is accused of fatally shooting her ex-boyfriend 45-year old Larry Simpson. That shooting happened Saturday at a home on Caribou near Cimarron.

According to police, officers had received a call from a third party saying they had received a call about a fight at the residence. Officers responded to the call and made contact with Welch. Speaking to her, they confirmed a man had been shot inside the residence.

The male victim was identified Monday afternoon by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as Simpson. They said he likely died from gunshot wounds, but his official cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology reports.

Welch remains in custody in lieu of $1 million dollars bond. She is set to appear in front of a judge at 9 Wednesday morning.
