CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - The Women's Shelter of South Texas celebrated 40 years of making a difference in the Coastal Bend with a big announcement -- they now have a new name.

The organization will now be known as The Purple Door.

They hope the new name will get more victims of abuse to come forward and seek their help. The shelter will also be a safe haven for men that have found themselves in abusive relationships as well.

The Purple Door will continue to serve an area of 12 counties.
