Locals Participate in Annual New Year's Day Two-Mile Swim

It may have been a chilly morning around the Coastal Bend on New Year's Day, but for some, it was the perfect weather for a swim.

At the City's Collier Public Swimming Pool, some young and not-so-young swimmers took part in the annual New Year's Day two-mile swim. It is a chance for long-distance water enthusiasts to test their endurance as they count the number of laps they have completed.

"The ages range from high schoolers to mid- to upper-50s," swimmer Therese Casey said. "Most of the people have done these swims years before. They just come back every year to improve their time and come back and see everybody."

It takes around 45 laps to swim two-miles.
