Man Arrested After Shooting Girlfriend, Stealing a Car

A woman remains hospitalized after police say her boyfriend shot her several times inside his truck during an argument Tuesday night.

It all happened at around 10 p.m. at the intersection of McArdle and Carroll Lane. Investigators said 32-year old Jacob Salazar shot his 44-year old girlfriend and then fled the scene, stealing a Mercedes from a nearby apartment complex and driving it to the 4800 block of Cheryl Drive.

"This is where he dumped the stolen car," said Lt. James Gray of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "He was taken into custody a couple of blocks from here at a relative's home."

The home Salazar was detained at belonged to his mother, on Nemec Street. Police say his mother was eventually able to get her son to surrender to police.

Salazar faces a number of charges, including aggravated assault and stealing a car.
