CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle accident on SPID just before two Sunday morning.
An off-duty officer in Moore Plaza noticed smoke in the area and discovered the wrecked vehicle on Highway 358.
The vehicle had front end damage and was facing traffic on the fast lane of the highway.
The driver was given a field sobriety test, which police say he failed. The man was placed in handcuffs and now faces a charge of DWI.
Lt. Nicholas Kless with CCPD told 3 News, "he was actually on the access road...there's debris all over here. He came out and hit the big light that propelled him on the highway. The vehicle crossed all three lanes where he ended up."
Police say the driver also had a warrant out for his arrest and he did not have a valid driver's license.
