Man Arrested for Robbing Jared Jewelry

A man robs a jewelry store at Staples and McArdle and takes off, but he didn't get far. The incident happened shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday morning. According to police, the suspect went inside the Jared's Jewelry Store and demanded jewelry. Police say he threatened the workers, saying he had a gun.

The suspect was able to flee the scene with a necklace and drove off in a Jeep.

Police were able to find out the description of the jeep and put out an alert for other officers to keep an eye open.

The vehicle was located along I-37 just before Mathis.

Police pulled the vehicle over and arrested 21-year old Gamaliel Altamirano Cancino. Police later found out, before the Jared robbery, the suspect was also involved in an assault.

Authorities received a call from a woman saying that her boyfriend assaulted her.

The woman told police that he choked her and threatened to tie her down.

The woman was able to get away by locking herself in the bathroom.

She claimed that her boyfriend took her purse and took her car as well.
