Man Killed in Early-Morning Rollover Accident on Airline Road

A 27-year old man from Virginia was killed early Thursday morning in a rollover accident at the 3800 block of Airline Road.

A resident in that area told police that he heard a crash between 4:30-5 a.m., and when he was leaving for work, he saw a truck in a ditch and called police. Traffic investigators determined that the male driver, later identified as Phillip Michael Hartley, failed to navigate the turn heading onto Rodd Field Road.

"If you take a look at the road here, the curb is put in here and it brings you back out to the light," said Captain Michael Alanis of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "If you are not familiar with this road, or if your used to the road going straight, that could be a cause, but we've got to take a look at that."

Police said there were no other cars involved in the accident and no signs of a passenger. Detectives said they will share information about the crash with the City's Traffic Engineering Department to see if they need to make any changes to the road, or if there is a need for a light.
