Memorial Held for Good Samaritan Killed in Accident

A memorial was held Friday for 39-year old Michael Branch, a good samaritan who was struck by a vehicle and killed while trying to provide assistance to the victims of a major accident.

It was earlier this week when Branch saw an accident on I-37 near Rand Morgan. He got out of his 18-wheeler to render aid and was struck by a driver.

The memorial ceremony was held in Aransas Pass.

"It's made the hole in my heart a little bit smaller to know that he was trying to help," said Christina Branch, Michael's mother. "I don't know if there will ever be any true comfort, but I know that we can now laugh at Michael's stories."

Police said the driver that hit Branch and killed him was not intoxicated at the time of the accident and did not face any charges.
