Moody Baseball Seniors Graduate at State Capital in Austin

It has already been a busy day for the Trojans and their fans, as they prepare for Friday night's Class 4A Championship game between Moody and Tomball.

Five Moody seniors received their high school diplomas in a very special ceremony Friday morning at the state capital in Austin.

The soon-to-be grads, their families, friends and Trojan teammates, made the early morning drive from Round Rock to Austin to don their gowns and baseball caps, since they will be playing for a State Championship while their fellow seniors graduate.

State Representative Abel Herrero and State Senator Chuy Hinojosa arranged the impromptu ceremony in the House of Representatives that included Corpus Christi Independent School District Superintendent Scott Elliff, Moody Principal Sandra Clement and several members of the school board.

The players admitted it was quite a start to a day they hope will end with a championship in Round Rock.

Also graduating at the capital were one of the team trainers and Moody softball star Jessica Mendez, whose brother is a sophomore on the Trojan baseball team. She opted to stay in Round Rock and cheer.
