CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - The Moody Trojans are hoping to take their "Moody Magic" with them to Round Rock this season, and they're looking to a new coach and a big time transfer to help make it happen.
Trojans' assistant coach Joe Curiel was promoted to head coach last year, taking over for Corky Gallegos. Curiel was 7-0 as Moody's interim coach during Gallegos' suspension last season, and also helped lead Moody to a win over then-#1 ranked Calallen. Curiel was a standout as a player at Miller and served as an interim coach for Texas A&M-Kingsville when the Javelinas won the Lone Star Conference title in 1995.
Moody will get a boost in the lineup from former Carroll Tiger catcher and pitcher Michael Cantu, who became a Trojan before the school year and quarterbacked the football team this past season. Cantu was a part of Carroll's final two teams that made it to the state semifinals and hopes to lead the Trojans back to Round Rock. The Trojans haven't been to Dell Diamond since falling in the 4A state championship game in 2009.
