Musich Sentenced to Life in Prison for Kidnapping, Raping 11-Year Old

A jury sentenced 19-year old Jacob Musich to life in prison after hearing closing statements from prosecutors and defense attorneys in the punishment phase of his trial Monday.

Musich plead guilty to kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 11-year old girl back in December of 2012. He is one of three defendants accused in the crime, and is being tried separately.

On Monday, the prosecution was hoping to convince jurors that Musich is a monster, while his defense attorneys focused on his use of synthetic marijuana as the culprit.

Musich told investigators that he and his friends, 19-year olds Eric Dimmick and Colton Visor, had planned the abduction after days of smoking synthetic marijuana and drinking. Musich admits that he was the only one who raped the girl.

"The legal sale of this poison is affecting our youth in this city, and if you're a parent who thinks your kids are too young for it to affect you, then you're mistaken," Defense Attorney Virginia Burt said. "Because of the situation today, we see that it affects everybody in our community. The moral fabric of our society is unraveling, and this case is the epitome of its devastation."

"And because he is white and he doesn't have any tattoos, and he doesn't have any official criminal history, it kind of makes things worse; because like Eric Dimmick says, look at me. I'm so non-threatening. I'm white, I got blonde hair, I can get away with anything," Assistant District Attorney Kimberly Gonzalez said. "How do we protect our children when we have monsters who hide in plain sight?"

Musich has to serve at least 30 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. There has been no word as to whether or not his lawyers plan to appeal. They have 30 days to do so.
